Caravan Chanukka in Scandinavia

December 11, 2006 - December 18, 2006
Bnei Akiva in cooperation with the Zionist Federation in Sweden and the Center for Jewish Services in the Diaspora brings Chanukah to Scandinavia

Caravan Chanukah is a project which started a few years ago. The goal of the caravan is to bring the special content of Chanukah to all Jewish Communities in Scandinavia, and from year to year succeeds in adding more and new features to it. This year we added a performance by the Shlichim to the regular structure (which includes assignments, prizes and musical entertainment). This performance integrated the special atmosphere of the holiday into the different assignments the audience received.

The caravan successfully touched the hearts everywhere they performed. In
Copenhagen, Malmoe, Stockholm and Gothenburg the children as well as the adults broke into spontaneous song and dance and the spirit was high.

Numerical conclusion
• 7 days
• 11 performances
• 2 kindergartens; 3 schools; 1 Old Age Home; 3 community performances; 1 student party
• 1500 km. of traveling
• 1100 people from ages 3-90

The Caravan Chanukah was without a doubt very successful. The current structure of having a performance by shlichim combined with Israeli musicians playing Jewish and Israeli music proved to be good.

There are, obviously, lessons that can be learned from this experience in order to improve the coming years, however, as a total the event was very successful, and the greatest proof to this must be the great interest from all the different communities, which turned up at the performance. We have a responsibility to all the communities all over Scandinavia to continue and expand on this great and unique tradition in the coming years.

I wish to express my utmost gratitude to all those who gave a hand in order to get the Caravan on the road. Without their help we could not have succeeded to create an event of this size, and they have been there for us all along the way:
• The Center of Jewish Services in the Diaspora – Rabbi Yechiel Wasserman, Mr. Yitzchak Shtieglitz;
• The Zionist Federation of Seden – Mr. Bo Sallmander, Mr. Franz Cohn
• Bnei Akiva Olamit – Mr. Zeev Schwartz, Mr. Carmi Ronen
• Hagshama Department – Mr. Roi Abecassis

Yours,
Elad Mayer
